The truth is I want travel open just as much as you, but we've learned in 2020 there is a right way and wrong way to travel. Let's discuss these actions and considerations we should take before our next bon voyage celebration:
The Right Way To Travel Safe: 1. Thoroughly research your destination. Is it open for leisure travel? If so what are the requirements? But most importantly, is there an increase in the spread of the virus? If the numbers are increasing then this may not be the destination for you. Check the CDC and WHO websites for specific location graphs. 2. Create a day by day, hour by hour itinerary. Identify where you will eat, what attractions you will visit, what sites you plan to see. Research and check the websites for hours, restrictions, online tickets, and reviews from other travelers that may report safety concerns. By having a well researched plan for your trip and sticking to it, you're less likely to compromise your safety. 3. Bring sanitizing supplies with you. Disinfectant spray, sanitizing wipes, a small bottle of bleach, gloves, masks, hand wipes, soap and anything else useful in cleaning your space. Hotels have increased their cleaning standards, and it has been noted that you're less likely to get infected in a hotel room, however, you can never be too careful. Especially when you're in a rental car, taxi, train, elevator, dining, home rental or anywhere other people have been. 4. Bring a First & Aid Kit and include additional items such as thermometer, alcohol wipes, cold relief, vitamin c tabs, allergy medicine, essential oils and any remedies you use at home. 5. Be mindful of the time of day you visit popular sites such as beaches and parks. Some beach destinations are crowded during holiday breaks. Get your family on an early morning schedule so you all can enjoy the beach or the pool with less of a crowd. 6. Don't forget that we are still in a pandemic. While it's easy to get swept up in the bliss of being in a new environment, meeting new people, and doing fun things, remain mindful to protect yourself and others at all times. Wear a mask and remain 6 feet apart. Tie a color string around your wrist or wear something that is visible to you and serves as a constant reminder of potential danger. 7. Quarantine and get tested before you travel on vacation and when you return home. Having a negative test result helps to ease concern you may have and tends to keep you on guard when it comes to wearing mask and staying 6 feet apart when traveling. 8. If you're traveling in a group or with an individual you do not live with, form a pact to quarantine and get tested before you travel. Hold each person accountable and agree to share test results before departing. Consider doing this even if you are only traveling with family. 9. Do not overlook Trip Insurance. In 2020 many people were stuck with no travel protection. This year, trip insurance is a necessity and in some cases a requirement for entry into a country. Insurance can cover you for some of your most basic needs such as lost baggage, canceled flight etc, but it can pay for your lodging if you need to quarantine during your vacation. It also covers you if you test positive before you travel and need to cancel your trip. 10. Use an experienced Travel Agent to help you manage your travel details. Travel Agents provide the support you need to ensure a safe experience and you can focus on having a memorable moment with your family and friends. Schedule a call with a reputable Travel Agent. It may be that we never return to what travel use to be, but with safety measures in place we can safely navigate the roads to a better way of travel. Being prepared, creating a plan, and taking action before you travel and when you return home will keep you and your family safe.
