Costa Rica has opened their doors to all leisure travelers including Americans. There are of course a few requirements and surprisingly it does not include getting a COVID-19 test, though it’s always best practice to take one before you travel.

As of November 1, 2020, to enter into Costa Rica you will need to do the following:

  1. Complete the Health Pass form available two days before you travel. This is similar to the health forms and screenings you take before you enter the local gym.  You can access it here: https://salud.go.cr
  2. Purchase Travel Insurance that guarantees your coverage of $50, 000 minimum for COVID-19 related illness and lodging in the event of quarantine. This coverage must be documented in the Health Pass.

That’s it! Pretty simple and easy. There are several local medical insurance companies listed on Costa Rica’s Tourism website.  Travel Insurance typically have Emergency Medical Coverage and it’s best to consult with your travel insurance provider to ensure it is the correct coverage to enter the Costa Rica.
